Lehigh Powers Past Lafayette in Women's Track and Field Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's track and field team topped Lafayette for the seventh straight time on Monday night, winning their dual meet by a score of 115-66. Junior Katie Hatler picked up two individual victories in the 60m hurdles and 60m dash on the way to being named Lehigh's Track Athlete of the Meet. Brittany Le Jouan was honored as the Field Athlete of the Meet for the Mountain Hawks after winning the triple jump and setting a new PR with her second place finish in the high jump. Also, senior Elizabeth Weiler made her season debut with a win in three 3,000 meter run. In total, Lehigh captured the maximum number of points possible in 10 events on the women's side.

Lehigh's day on the track began with a clean sweep in the one mile run, with Laura Barnes pulling ahead of the pack and breaking the tape in 5:09.47. Brenna Clark followed closely behind in second place (5:12.11) and Stacie Nadel took third (5:13.93).

Weiler and Henderson went back and forth in the 3,000 meter run, before Weiler pulled away and crossed the line in first place with a time of 10:07.08. Henderson finished comfortably in second place with a finish of 10:10.82.

Hatler, Natalie Jacobs and Gabrielle Wardle followed that up with a sweep of their own in the 60 meter hurdles. Hatler took the top spot in 8.92 seconds, edging out Jacobs by one-hundredth of a second, with Wardle finishing third in 9.21 seconds.

Hatler's second win of the night came in the 60 meter dash, where she sprinted to a 8.13-second win, just edging out Lafayette's Erin Keen by one-hundredth of a second. Liyala Dickens finished in third place, just 0.02 seconds off the pace, and Alexa Alhout tied for fourth (8.18) in the closely contested race.

Hatler also turned in a third place finish in the 200 meter dash, crossing the line in 27.26. Dickens took home second place in the 200 meter, turning out a team-best time of 26.90.

In the 800 meters, Lehigh once again took the top two spots with Clare Severe leading the way in 2:16.28. Tyler Scanlin was not far behind, finishing with a second place time of 2:17.16.

Elsewhere in the sprints, Noreen Byrne led the way for Lehigh with a second place mark of 1:01.32 in the 400 meters, followed by Lindsay Voltz in third place (1:01.61) and Kristen Lavallee in fourth (1:01.93). Hanna Brosky (1:18.12) and Rachel Okun (1:18.39) followed that up with finishes of second and third place, respectively in the 500 meter run.

The Mountain Hawks reigned victorious in the 1,000 meters, as Marissa Karl captured the top spot with a time of 2:58.42. Stephanie Hayes also scored for the Mountain Hawks with a third place tally of 3:04.97.

Lehigh capped the night on the track by picking up wins in both relays. The team of Byrne, Brosky, Voltz and Lavallee captured the top spot in the 4x400 with a time of 4:04.77. The 4x800 team followed that with another win as Severe, Karl, Hannah Leskow and Amanda Ruschel crossed the finish in 9:31.29, more than 12 seconds ahead of their Leopard counterparts.

Avery and Le Jouan powered the Mountain Hawks in the jumps, as Avery tied her own school record, winning the high jump at 1.75 meters, to finish ahead of Le Jouan who set a new personal best of 1.70.

Lehigh again grabbed the maximum number of points in the triple jump as Le Jouan topped all with a leap of 10.87 meters. Byrne and Kiana Wright rounded out the top three.

Wardle leapt further than anyone in long jump at 5.53 meters, with Wright finishing just behind in second (5.43). Amanda Youngblood was victorious in the shot put (12.07m) and finished second in the weight throw (14.66m) to teammate Michaela Bubak, who won the event with a toss of 15.27m.

Kaitlyn Toman (3.20m) and Tyler Bannister (3.05m) led Lehigh in second and third place, respectively, in the pole vault.

Lehigh has a short week and returns to Rauch Fieldhouse this Saturday to host the annual John Covert Classic. The action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
