Men’s Golf Finishes Ninth at Tuxedo Autumn Invitational

TUXEDO PARK, N.Y. – The Lehigh men's golf team finished ninth overall out of 11 teams at the Tuxedo Autumn Invitational this weekend, hosted by Columbia University. Sophomore Billy Johns shot a 76 in Saturday's third and final round, finishing a team-best 14 over par for the tournament, and tied for 25th overall. The individual champion was Monmouth's Noah Firestone, who at two-under 211 (74-68-69) was the only golfer to finish the tournament under par. Drexel was crowned the tournament's team champion, shooting a 17-over, 869 over three rounds. The Dragons tied Columbia but won the tiebreaker with a final round 290 to claim the team title 

The Mountain Hawks finished at 929 (318-301-310).

Johns' second-round 73 tied for the low Lehigh round of the tournament, as he finished at 227.
 
Freshman Jonathan Hsu was second-highest Mountain Hawk finisher, shooting a 20 over 233 (80-76-77) for the tournament for a 35th place overall finish.
 
Freshmen Lee Hammerschmidt (80-79-76) and Eamon Marone (75-83-77), rounded out Lehigh's top four performers by tying for 36th overall at 235. Hammerschmidt shot 76 on Saturday to finish +22 for the tournament, while Marone, who was competing as an individual, shot a 77 for the final round.
 
Senior Dave Olexson (80-73-85) shot 238 for the tournament to finish 44th, and Brendan Worthy (87-81-81) tied for 58th.
 
The Mountain Hawks will return to the links for their annual Presidents' Cup matchup with archrival Lafayette on Oct. 13, before closing out their fall campaign by hosting the Lehigh Invitational Oct. 16-17 at Saucon Valley Country Club.
