EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh men's cross country team used a perfect score of 15 points to top rival Lafayette on Saturday morning at the annual Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet. It was the second perfect score in as many meets for the Mountain Hawks to begin the 2015 season. Lehigh's 15-50 triumph was its 17th-straight victory over the Leopards in the annual dual meet. Sophomore Scott Mason won the individual title in the 8K race, crossing the finish line in 26:23.4.

This marks the third year in a row, and fourth time in the last five years, the Mountain Hawks have obtained a perfect score of 15 against Lafayette. Lehigh notched 16 points in a victory at the dual meet in 2012.

"Today was a great day for the team and a historic win in regards to the rivalry," head coach Todd Etters said afterwards. "We really ran well as a pack and it was great to see Scott Mason have a breakout performance and pick up the win."

Mason's victory was the first individual title of his career and helped lead the Mountain Hawks to a sweep of the top 11 places in the meet, and 13 of the top 15 overall. The Mountain Hawks had a strong pack up front, with their top five runners all finishing within 6.4 seconds of one another.

Senior Evan Warde finished second overall, also crossing the line with Mason in 26:23.4. Sophomore Patrick Reilly rounded out the top three with a finish of 26:24.8. Junior Nicholas Hirdt (26:27.6) and senior Evan Hardy (26:29.8) accompanied the front of the pack by finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Sophomore John Tolbert ran a strong race to a sixth-place finish of 26:38.5, while junior Ryan Cooney rounded out the Mountain Hawks' top seven with a time of 26:39.8. The team kept the pressure on Lafayette by sending four more consecutive runners across the finish line. Junior Kyle Leonard completed an eighth place run of 26:43.2, just ahead of classmate Alexander Fitzgerald, who completed the course in 26:49.6. Sophomore Joseph Inglis followed closely behind with a 26:50.8 finish and classmate Kyle Kirk placed 11th in 26:52.6.

After the Leopards top finisher, Kelvin Serem, came in 12th overall, Brian Arita (27:12.0) and Sean Burke (27:15.9) came through with 13th and 14th place finishes for Lehigh.

"We also had some guys step up today that have been battling through some things during their careers and that was great to see," Etters added. "The dual meet seems to bring the best out of us."

The Lehigh men's team returns to action in two weeks on Friday, Oct. 2 when Lehigh hosts the 42nd annual Paul Short Run on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
