
Men’s soccer lands a league-best five former standouts on PL 25th Anniversary team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer program was well-represented on the Patriot League Men's Soccer 25th Anniversary Team as a league-best five former Mountain Hawks landed on the squad, the league announced Monday. Evan Bruno, Kevin Jackson, Andrew Mittendorf, John O'Reilly and Kevin Strunk all found their way on the list that honors the top 25 players to have played in the Patriot League in its 25-year history.

Bruno (1999-02) stands second all-time in Patriot League scoring with 101 career points (40 goals, 21 assists). Bruno was a two-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and three-time first team All-League selection. He earned third team All-American status in 2001 and was a three-time first team NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic selection. Bruno helped lead Lehigh to the 2000 Patriot League Championship by scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Bucknell in the tournament semifinals. Bruno went on to play professional soccer for the Long Island Rough Riders of the USL Pro Select League following his time in the Brown and White.

Jackson (1996-99) is one of seven players in league history to earn All-Patriot League honors for all four years of his career. Jackson kicked off his career as a Mountain Hawk by being crowned the 1996 Patriot League Rookie of the Year. He set a Patriot League single-season record that still stands with 15 assists during the 1997 campaign and also owns Lehigh's career assists (26) and single-game assists (3) records. Jackson earned a spot on the NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic team three times during his career, including first team honors following the 1997 season. Jackson was drafted in the sixth round of the 2000 Major League Soccer Draft by the Chicago Fire and went on to play with several different professional clubs.

Mittendorf (1995-98) is the Patriot League's all-time leading scorer as he holds league records for career points (106) and goals (43). Mittendorf also holds the league's best marks in single-season goals (24) and points (49), both of which were set in the 1998 season. He was twice named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and earned NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic honors two times. He was also named to the Patriot League All-Decade Team in 2000. Mittendorf went on to be drafted in the first round of the 1999 MLS draft by the Colorado Rapids and played for several professional clubs.

O'Reilly (2003-06) was the first of two NSCAA first team All-Americans in league history after garnering the plaudits during the 2006 season. O'Reilly anchored the 2006 Lehigh squad that was undefeated in league play during the regular season and set a program record with 15 victories. He also earned Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honors during the historic 2006 season and was a two-time NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic and All-Patriot League selection. O'Reilly went on to play professional soccer in the USL and Denmark.

Strunk (2008-11) was a two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year. He earned first team All-Patriot League and first team NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic honors during both his junior and senior seasons. He helped anchor a Mountain Hawk defense that surrendered a league-low eight goals in 17 matches and tied for the most team shutouts with 10 in 2011.

Each school that participates in men's soccer selected 25 players in the voting for the 25th Anniversary Team, and could not vote for its own student-athletes.
