BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh seeks a second straight home victory as the Mountain Hawks host Holy Cross Saturday on Military Appreciation Day at Goodman Stadium. The Mountain Hawks evened their record at 4-4 and moved to 2-1 in the Patriot League with a 33-28 win over Georgetown last Saturday. Freshman quarterback Brad Mayes threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start, while classmate Dominick Bragalone chipped in a career-high 169 rushing yards. Lehigh led 24-7 at halftime before thwarting Georgetown's second half comeback attempt.

As part of Military Appreciation Day, any person presenting a military ID Saturday will receive free admission. Tickets will be half price for family members of military personnel. The Lehigh Steel Battalion is helping support the event, which will feature a Humvee and punching bag station outside the front entrance to Goodman Stadium and the Lehigh ROTC handing out items and information inside the stadium.

Holy Cross is one of three Patriot League teams that enter this week at 4-4 overall (Lehigh and Bucknell are the others). The Crusaders own a 1-2 league mark with a win over Lafayette and losses to Colgate and Fordham. Last weekend, Holy Cross edged Bryant 34-33 in Worcester as Connor Fitzgerald booted a 31-yard field goal with 13 seconds remaining to give the Crusaders their second straight win.

Holy Cross boasts the Patriot League's top passing offense, led by quarterback Peter Pujals, a dual threat who averages 320 yards of total offense per game. The Crusaders have three outstanding wide receivers in Brendan Flaherty, Kalif Raymond and Jake Wieczorek. Defensively, Kyle Young and Nick McBeath lead the Crusaders with 59 tackles. Holy Cross owns the Patriot League's No. 2 scoring defense and pass defense and is plus five in turnover margin for the season.

Freshman Brad Mayes delivered a strong effort in his first college start, filling in for Nick Shafnisky, who was limited to situational duty due to injury. Mayes completed 18-of-24 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns, and did not turn the ball over. He was 13-of-18 for 154 yards in the first half as Lehigh built a 24-7 halftime advantage. The Tampa, Florida product's strong performance marked the fourth straight time Lehigh won a game in which its starting quarterback was making his first career start.

Lehigh rushed for 222 yards and passed for 236 in its win over Georgetown last weekend. The numbers have shown that when Lehigh features a balanced attack, the Mountain Hawks have enjoyed success in 2015. When there is a difference of less than 100 yards between Lehigh's net rushing and passing totals, the Mountain Hawks are 4-0. When the difference is more than 100, Lehigh is 0-4.

For four seasons from 2009-2012 Lehigh led the Patriot League in sacks. In fact, the Mountain Hawks led the nation in sacks in 2009. Lehigh's sack production has dropped over the last two seasons, with the Mountain Hawks registering just 20 in 2013 and 15 last year, which ranked last in the Patriot League. Lehigh's pass rush has already recorded 20 sacks through eight games, including a season-best five against Georgetown. Seniors Greg Palma and Noah Robb lead the way with four sacks apiece.

Lehigh and Holy Cross get together for the 31st time with Lehigh holding a slight 16-13-1 lead in the series. Lehigh had won four straight games over Holy Cross before the Crusaders prevailed last year in Worcester. These teams first met in 1924 and did not meet again until 1986.
