WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Lehigh women's swimming and diving team earned a pair of victories on Friday evening, defeating West Chester 141-64 and Bloomsburg, 135-70. The Mountain Hawks earned victories in nine of the 11 swimming events in a dominant team effort.

"We got off to a bit of a slow start but we did well to rally for two wins," Lehigh head coach Rob Herb said.

The evening began with the 400 yard medley which featured the Mountain Hawks' team of sophomore Rachel Rider, senior Melissa Feeney, junior Kelly Carroll and freshman Courtney Ferreira. They finished in second with a time of 4:00.43, less than one second behind first. One event later, Lehigh earned the top two finishes in the 1,000 yard freestyle as senior Courtney Patterson came in first (10:38.45) with her teammate, junior Cora Summerfield right behind her in second (10:43.60).

Lehigh continued to rack up first-place finishes as Ferreira won the 200 yard freestyle (1:54.58) and was followed by senior Carolyn Koch in second (1:55.59). Junior Kaitlyn Ruffing was victorious in the 50 yard freestyle (23.76), Carroll won the 200 yard IM (2:09.82) and sophomore Sydney Bornstein captured the 200 yard butterfly with Summerfield a close second (2:12.27).

Ruffing earned her second win of the evening, pacing the field in the 100 yard freestyle (51.84) as the Mountain Hawks earning second and third place as well with Ferreira (53.16) and Koch (53.46), respectively. Rider and freshman Kate Bergin tied for first in the 200 yard backstroke with identical times of 2:08.79 while Patterson won the 500 yard freestyle (5:11.73).

Lehigh closed out the successful evening with the team of Koch, sophomore Julia Perry, Carroll and Ruffing winning the 200 yard freestyle (1:38.45).

"Kaitlyn Ruffing and Courtney Patterson continued to lead the way for our women," Herb said. "It was also great to see freshman Courtney Ferreira win the first event of her college career."

The Mountain Hawks (2-1) return to action in less than 24 hours when they travel to Rider for a 1 p.m. matinee.
