
Mountain Hawks announce 2014 team awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a strong 2014 season, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team handed out its team awards earlier this week. Senior Alexandra Fitzpatrick was named Athlete of the Year while junior Lauren Willcox garnered Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Kelly Scott earned the Coaches Award. The Mountain Hawks finished 4-4 in league play to advance to their first Patriot League Tournament since 2011.

Fitzpatrick enjoyed a standout senior season, earning first team All-Patriot League honors for the second team in her career. Alex finished the year with an 8.52 GAA and 50.0 save percentage. The save percentage stands fourth nationally. Fitzpatrick reached double-figure saves on six occasions, including a career-high 17 stops in the Patriot League opener vs. Bucknell. That effort earned her Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors. Fitzpatrick also made 14 saves against Lafayette and Bryant while making 11 stops in Lehigh's double overtime victory at Boston University to hand the Terriers their first-ever Patriot League defeat.

Willcox has impressed in the classroom and on the field, earning a spot on the All-Patriot League Team (first team) and Academic All-League Team. She owns an impressive 3.72 GPA as a Biology major. She's been on the Dean's List several times for a GPA over 3.60 and has also garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award. Willcox finished the season with 18 groundballs and 17 caused turnovers. She's started from day one and owns 52 groundballs and 37 caused turnovers in her career. She recorded multiple caused turnovers on five occasions this season including three at Navy and vs. Holy Cross. Willcox also scored a goal against Bryant. The Chester Springs, Pennsylvania native also garnered second team All-League honors as a sophomore.

For a second straight year, Scott earned the Coaches Award, presented to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement or special leadership. Scott has started from day one in the brown and white, starting all 16 games in her junior campaign while posting 28 groundballs and 12 draw controls. A team captain, Scott posted five groundballs at Colgate and had three caused turnovers at Fairfield and vs. Lafayette.

Lehigh advanced to its first Patriot League Tournament since 2011, finishing 4-4 in league play which included a big 12-11 double overtime win over Boston University on Apr. 5 to hand the Terriers their first-ever Patriot League defeat. Five players earned All-League honors while freshman Allison LaBeau was named Rookie of the Year. Lehigh was the only school other than Loyola to earn a major postseason award.
