Sukonik and Willcox named Academic All-Patriot League

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Impressing both on the field and in the classroom, Lehigh women's lacrosse juniors Carli Sukonik and Lauren Willcox have been named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced on Wednesday. Both Sukonik and Willcox were also named All-Patriot League performers earlier in the week.
 
Out of the 12 members of the Academic All-Patriot League Team, eight earned All-Patriot League laurels as well with just three earning a spot on the first team (Willcox, Sara Hennessey of Holy Cross and Marlee Paton of Loyola).
 
Sukonik owns a stellar cumulative GPA of 3.70 as a Design major. She posted a perfect 4.0 GPA this past fall and has been named to the Dean's List multiple times for semester GPAs over 3.60. She has also garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award while earning a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
 
Sukonik led the Mountain Hawks in goals this season with 32, despite missing two games. She added five assists for 37 points (second on the team). Sukonik will enter her senior year with 112 career points behind 98 goals and 14 assists). The Penn Valley, Pennsylvania native had multiple points in 11 of her 14 games this season including her last five games. She finished with five hat tricks, scoring four goals on three separate occasions. Sukonik was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week following three goals and one assist in Lehigh's thrilling double overtime win at Boston University. She has been named an All-Patriot League performer in each of her first three seasons.
 
Willcox owns a strong 3.72 GPA as a Biology major. She's been on the Dean's List several times for a GPA over 3.60 and has also garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award.
 
One of the team's top defenders, Willcox finished with 18 groundballs and 17 caused turnovers on the season. Willcox has started from day one and owns 52 groundballs and 37 caused turnovers in her career. She recorded multiple caused turnovers on five occasions this season including three at Navy and vs. Holy Cross. Willcox helped contain Navy's Loren Generi, holding her to three points despite entering the game with 71 points. Lehigh held the Mids to just eight goals through regulation and 16 shots, entering the game averaging 13.62 and 27 shots per game, respectively. Willcox also scored a goal against Bryant. The Chester Springs, Pennsylvania native was named first team All-Patriot League after garnering second team honors as a sophomore.
 
The Mountain Hawks wrapped up their season on Tuesday with a 14-9 Patriot League Quarterfinal defeat at Boston University. Lehigh advanced to its first Patriot League Tournament since 2011, finishing 4-4 in league play which included a big 12-11 double overtime win over Boston University on Apr. 5 to hand the Terriers their first-ever Patriot League defeat. Five players earned All-League honors while freshman Allison LaBeau was named Rookie of the Year. Lehigh was the only school other than Loyola to earn a major postseason award.
