Mountain Hawks grab 36 hole lead at Red Flash Invitational

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team is off to a strong start at the Red Flash Invitational as the Mountain Hawks have grabbed the team lead after the first 36 holes of play Monday at Sunnehanna Country Club. The Mountain Hawks' opening round 311 was the lowest among the seven participating teams. In the afternoon, Lehigh was one of three teams to shoot 303 as the Mountain Hawks lead the field at 614.
 
Youngstown State sits in second place at 315-303-618, while Towson is third, 16 strokes behind the Mountain Hawks at 327-303-630.
 
All five of Lehigh's scoring players sit in the top 15 individually. Junior Alyssa Scheyd turned in Lehigh's low round of the day as she opened with a one over par 72 to sit in second place after 18 holes. On her second hole of the day, the167-yard, par 3 14th, Scheyd recorded her first career hole in one. Scheyd followed up with a second round 81, the high round for the Mountain Hawks in the afternoon, to fall into a tie for fourth at 153.
 
Senior Crystal Lee led Lehigh in the afternoon with a two over par 73, 11 strokes better than her morning 84 as her 158 is good for 13th place.
 
Junior Melanie Dickens was the only Mountain Hawk to post two rounds in the 70s Monday as she sits in a tie for tenth place at 77-79-156. Dickens is one stroke behind sophomore Nicole Feierberg, who is tied for seventh at 80-75-155. Feierberg eagled the par 4 fourth hole in her second round of the day.
 
Rounding out Lehigh's five scoring players was junior Kelly Moylan who shot 82-76-158 and sits in 14th place. Moylan finished her day with three straight birdies.
 
Senior Elizabeth Sander is competing as an individual and is tied for 32nd at 88-87-175 after 36 holes.
 
Emily Dixon of Youngstown State holds the individual 36-hole lead at six over par 148 (75-73). She leads Haley Morell of Robert Morris by two strokes. Scheyd is five shots off the pace.
 
The Red Flash Invitational will conclude Tuesday; weather permitting, with the final 18 holes beginning at 10 a.m.
 
Following the Red Flash Invitational, Lehigh will host the Patriot League Championship Saturday and Sunday at Saucon Valley Country Club.
