BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head football coach Andy Coen has announced the hiring of Drew Folmar as the Mountain Hawks' new Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach. Folmar recently completed his first season as the head football coach at Kutztown University and spent the last five seasons molding the Golden Bears' offense into one of the top units in Division II.

In addition, Coen announced that Brett Sawyer, who has spent the last eight seasons as Lehigh's Offensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, has been promoted to Run Game Coordinator, while Jamel Mutunga joins the staff as an offensive assistant.

For the last five seasons, Folmar directed Kutztown's offense and coached its quarterbacks. He mentored a total of 16 All-PSAC East performers and two PSAC East Offensive Players of the Year. His student-athletes also excelled in the classroom as he coached  one Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-American, two Academic All-District selections and 15 PSAC Scholar-Athletes.

"I am happy to welcome Drew Folmar as our new quarterback coach and offensive coordinator," said Coen. "I have no doubt that Drew will mesh well with our staff and continue to help our offense rank among the best in the FCS. Drew has proven himself to be an outstanding teacher of quarterback play, and this was critical to me as I went through the hiring process.  Drew is also a proven play caller who has led many explosive offenses in his career.  What I liked the most about Drew was that he views himself as a teacher. He will teach the fundamentals and he will develop his players into the best that they can be."

When he arrived at Kutztown following the 2008 season, Folmar took over a unit that ranked 96th in scoring and 86th in total offense and molded it into one of the top offensive attacks in Division II. In three seasons from 2010-2012 Folmar's offense never ranked lower than 12th in the nation in scoring offense. The Golden Bears ranked tenth in Division II in total offense in 2011 and 2012.

Folmar's offense helped Kutztown to a then-school record ten wins and the school's first ever Division II playoff berth in 2010. The following year the Golden Bears captured their first PSAC championship and won a playoff game for the first time. Kutztown finished with 11 victories and earned its highest ranking in school history, peaking at No. 6 in the AFCA Poll.

In 2012 Kutztown established a new school single-season scoring record for the third straight year, finishing with 490 points. The Golden Bear offense ranked fourth in scoring (44.5 points per game), sixth in passing offense and tenth in total offense. Folmar was named head coach at Kutztown in January 2013 and went 4-7 in his lone season as a head coach.

Individually, Folmar played a major role in the development of quarterback Kevin Morton, who was twice named the PSAC East Offensive Player of the Year and was a two-time regional finalist for the Division II Player of the Year Award, the Harlon Hill Trophy. The most highly decorated quarterback in Kutztown history, Morton owns nine school single-game, season or career records, ranks fourth all-time in Division II in passing touchdowns, and is one of just 19 Division II players to have thrown for 10,000 yards and 100 touchdowns.

In his playing days, Folmar was a standout quarterback at Millersville University from 1997-2000. A four-time All-PSAC East selection, three-time team MVP and two-time team captain, Folmar set numerous single-season and career records for the Marauders and was a regional finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy in 2000. Millersville won 30 games during his career, including a 20-4 mark in PSAC East play, and reached the second round of the NCAA Playoffs in 1999.  Folmar was inducted into the Millersville Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013. He graduated in 2001 with a degree in elementary education and a minor in athletic coaching.

Folmar's coaching career began in 2001 as a student-assistant at his alma mater working with quarterbacks and wide receivers. He enjoyed a one year stint at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy before returning to Millersville where he coached the wide receivers from 2003 to 2007.

Prior to joining the Kutztown coaching staff, Folmar was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of New Haven, helping to reestablish that football program during the spring and summer of 2008.

A native of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Folmar and his wife, Heather, have three children: a daughter, MacQuarrie, a son, Gavin, and a younger daughter, Tessa.

Sawyer recently completed his eighth season on Lehigh's staff. In 2013, Sawyer's line paved the way for an offense that ranked in the top 25 in the FCS. The Mountain Hawks averaged 154 yards per game on the ground in 2013 and the offensive line helped Keith Sherman become Lehigh's first 1,000 yard rusher since 2002. Left tackle Ned Daryoush earned All-Patriot League honors, while center Matt Lippincott earned the first All-League recognition of his career.

"Coach Sawyer has been instrumental in the success of our offense," Coen said. "During his tenure at Lehigh, Brett has produced many outstanding offensive linemen and has had a profound influence on our offensive attack."

Twelve of Sawyer's offensive linemen have earned a total of 20 All-Patriot League honors in his eight seasons in charge of the unit and five players have been recognized as All-Americans, led by Will Rackley '11 who was a three-time first team All-Patriot League selection and a two-time All-American. Rackley was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft (76th overall), and has been a starter at guard for Jacksonville in two of his first three NFL seasons.

Sawyer has also coordinated recruiting efforts that brought in the student-athletes who comprised Lehigh's Patriot League championship teams in 2010 and 2011 and the players who have helped the Mountain Hawks post an impressive 39-9 record over the last four seasons.

Prior to his arrival at Lehigh, Sawyer enjoyed coaching stints at Penn, Princeton, Virginia and his alma mater, Muhlenberg College.

A 1998 graduate of Muhlenberg with a degree in history, Sawyer earned three varsity letters and started at center, guard, and tackle on the offensive line, earning First-Team All-Conference accolades at center as a senior.  In 2003, he added a master's degree in education from Virginia.

Sawyer and his wife, Brook, reside in Center Valley with their son Cade and daughter Haley.

Jamel Mutunga joins the Mountain Hawks' coaching staff as an offensive assistant. Mutunga comes to Lehigh from Muhlenberg where he spent two seasons on the offensive staff. He coached the tight ends and halfbacks and also served as video coordinator and operations assistant.

Among Mutunga's duties at Muhlenberg were coaching special team position groups, recruiting high school student-athletes and serving as offensive coordinator for the junior varsity team. He was also responsible for weekly breakdown and analysis of offensive and special teams film and for coordinating daily filming of practice and games.

Mutunga starred collegiately at Gettysburg College where he was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter at running back from 2007-10. He had 2,804 career rushing yards and earned All-Centennial Conference honors three times. He tied a Centennial Conference record with five rushing touchdowns in one game and finished his career third on the Gettysburg all-time list with 38 touchdowns.

A native of Bel Air, Maryland, Mutunga graduated from Gettysburg in 2011 with Bachelor's degrees in Business Administration and Economics.
