College Sporting News tabs Kurfis for All-America team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior wide receiver Lee Kurfis added yet another postseason award to his collection Wednesday as he was named to the College Sporting News 2013 Fabulous Fifty FCS All-America Team. The team features the top 50 football student-athletes in the Football Championship Subdivision as selected by CSN. Kurfis was one of four wide receivers named to the squad.
Kurfis finished his senior season as the FCS leader in receiving yards per game, averaging 122.8 per contest. He set a new Lehigh single-season record with 99 receptions, breaking the previous mark of 96 set by Ryan Spadola in 2011. His nine receptions per game ranked third nationally. Kurfis also collected 1,351 receiving yards in 2013, good for second in school history and fourth in the FCS. He also scored nine touchdowns.
In Lehigh's season-opening win over Central Connecticut State, Kurfis set a Goodman Stadium record with 222 receiving yards and caught two touchdowns as the Mountain Hawks erased a 20-point fourth quarter deficit to win 51-44 in double overtime. Kurfis added 211 yards and two more touchdowns the following week at Monmouth to become the first player in Patriot League history to record back-to-back 200 yard receiving games. He also tied a school single-game record with 14 receptions (for 130 yards and two touchdowns) in an October win at Columbia.
The West Chester, Pa. native finished his career with 153 receptions for 2,183 yards and 14 touchdowns. A first team All-Patriot League selection, Kurfis previously earned first team All-America honors from the Sports Network and second team laurels from the Associated Press. Late last month, Kurfis was also named to the ECAC All-Star team.
Kurfis is the fourth Lehigh football player in the last four years to be honored by the College Sporting News, joining Chris Lum (2011), Ryan Spadola (2011) and Will Rackley (2010).
