BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Former Mountain Hawk captain and four-year letterwinner Becky Guman will be joining the Lehigh women's basketball staff as the Director of Basketball Operations and a Partnership Representative, as announced by Head Coach Sue Troyan on Wednesday.
"We're very excited to have Becky as a member of our coaching staff this season as she transitions into her role as Director of Basketball Operations for our program," said Troyan. "As a former student-athlete and leader in our program, Becky will bring a high level of understanding for what our players will be going through both on and off the court. She will bring a tremendous work ethic and passion to her role and great knowledge of our department, university and the people associated within all of these areas. All of these qualities will be of great benefit to our program in her new role."
Guman graduated from Lehigh this past May with her degree in Sociology/Social Psychology. The Allentown native played in 122 games during her time on the team and was honored with numerous accolades for her efforts over the course of four years.
After her senior year, Guman was honored with the Patriot League Leadership and Character Award. The award honors those who demonstrate excellence in leadership and service while participating in Patriot League athletics. Guman was the unquestioned leader of the young 2012-2013 squad that went 14-16 overall and 6-8 in the Patriot League. She started 29 games and posted career-best averages of 7.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. She was called on as a leader on and off the court during the season, using her ability to develop meaningful relationships with a diverse constituency to positively influence others to achieve a goal.
In each of her last two seasons, Guman was selected to participate in Lehigh's most selective leadership development program. She scored highest in areas of communication and showing respect and care for others which allowed her to successfully serve as an influence for her team in any circumstances.
Guman made numerous appearances on the Dean's List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in her Lehigh career. She won a Patriot League title as a freshman and in April of 2013 received the Mary O. Hurley senior female leadership award at the end-of-year Lehigh Athletics Convocation.
