
Mountain Hawks look back at season at annual banquet

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh field hockey looked back at its 2013 season last Saturday (Dec. 7) at the team's annual end-of-year banquet. Team awards were handed out while the Mountain Hawks' three seniors were honored. Lehigh picked up a pair of shutout victories over Georgetown and Towson, while defeating Lock Haven as well.

Seniors Erinn Bonshak, Marie Mignogna and Caitlyn Mitchell were recognized for their time in the Brown and White. The trio enjoyed success, highlighted by their sophomore season when they led the Mountain Hawks to a 3-2 Patriot League record and #3 seed in the league tournament.

Athlete of the Year honors went to freshman Marissa Glatt, who was the league's only rookie named first team All-Patriot League. Glatt posted a team-leading 12 goals and 25 points to pace the Lehigh offense. She scored a goal in 11 of the team's 18 games, which included a six-game goal streak from Sept. 6 through Sept. 22. Glatt's scored a career-high two goals at La Salle while posting four goals and one assist in Patriot League play.

Scholar-Athlete of the Year was presented to junior Steph Fratoni. Last season's Athlete of the Year has excelled in the classroom, owning a GPA over 3.6 as a Biology major. Fratoni was named an Academic All-Patriot League honoree. A consistent member of the Dean's List, Fratoni dished out two assists. She was an All-Patriot League honoree as a freshman.

The Coaches Award, presented to the student-athlete who made notable contributions to the well-being of the team in the areas of attitude, improvement and leadership, went to sophomore Taylor Mygatt. Mygatt enjoyed a strong season, starting all 18 games while scoring a goal. The goal came in a big Patriot League matchup at Colgate. She finished the year with three shots and one on goal.

The Mountain Hawks made great strides in 2013, hanging tough against several nationally-ranked caliber opponents. Lehigh posted shutout victories over Georgetown and Towson while earning a big 2-1 win over Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles entered with a 10-3 record, two of the losses coming against top 10 squads North Carolina and Penn State. The Mountain Hawks were in every game, with their greatest margin of defeat being three goals.

A talented group returns next season as 13 of the 14 players who recorded a point are underclassmen. Freshman Julia Ward returns in goal following a standout campaign which saw her post a 2.98 GAA and .756 save percentage, along with a pair of shutouts.
