BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh field hockey junior Steph Fratoni has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced on Wednesday. Fratoni, who owns an impressive 3.65 GPA as a Biology major, started 17 games this season. She's helped transform a Lehigh program that picked up a big win over Lock Haven and hung tough against several nationally-ranked caliber opponents.
Â
Fratoni is one of 11 Patriot League players named to the Academic Team. An All-Patriot League honoree as a freshman, Fratoni dished two assists this season - against Saint Francis (Pa.) and Georgetown - as an anchor in the midfield. Her contributions go far beyond on-field statistics. Fratoni is a two-time captain and is extremely active in the Lehigh Athletics Leadership programs.
Â
In the classroom, Fratoni has garnered Dean's List honors on three occasions for a semester GPA over 3.6. She was a member of the 2011 Gladiator Division I National Academic Squad, garnered an NFHCA National Individual Academic Award in 2012 and has earned the Faculty Athletics Council Award. Fratoni has been a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll each of her first two years.
Â
The Mountain Hawks made great strides in 2013, hanging tough against several nationally-ranked caliber opponents. Lehigh posted shutout victories over Georgetown and Towson while earning a big 2-1 win over Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles entered with a 10-3 record, two of the losses coming against top 10 squads North Carolina and Penn State. The Mountain Hawks were in every game, with their greatest margin of defeat being three goals.
Â
A talented group returns next season as 13 of the 14 players who recorded a point are underclassmen. Freshman Julia Ward returns in goal following a standout campaign which saw her post a 2.98 GAA and .756 save percentage, along with a pair of shutouts.
