BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women’s lacrosse team will look to rebound from a tough overtime loss to Colgate when it hosts Fairfield on Wednesday. Opening draw at the Ulrich Sports Complex is scheduled for 3 p.m. The Mountain Hawks stand at 2-5 after a four-game losing streak, but against strong foes (Delaware, Navy, #2 Florida and Colgate).
In the Mountain Hawk’s loss against Colgate, freshman Megan Paytas led the way with her first-career hat trick to go along with an assist. Senior Julie McBrien also scored three goals in the loss. Junior goalie Alexandra Fitzpatrick made 11 saves in net for Lehigh including many key stops late in the game to help force overtime.
McBrien leads the Lehigh offense with 14 goals and 17 draw controls while she has also scooped up a team-high 11 groundballs. Sophomores Lauren Willcox and Michelle Abramczyk are tied for second in groundballs with 10 each. Junior Alex Fitzpatrick has started all seven games in goal for the Brown and White, owning a 12.82 GAA and 40.2 save percentage.
Coming off a 16-4 win over Quinnipiac on Saturday, Fairfield improved to 4-3 on the season. Fairfield outshot Quinnipiac 34-14 on the afternoon and finished with a 19-10 edge in groundballs. The Stags won 14-of-21 draw controls and cleared the ball at an impressive rate of 16-18.
Senior Chloe Mangan leads the Fairfield offense with 21 goals, and junior Melanie Raso leads with 21 draw controls and 6 assists. Senior Olivia Ziegler has scooped up a team high 17 ground balls on the season. Senior goalie Katie Keenan has started all seven games in the cage for Fairfield with a total of 38 saves and an average of 7.33 goals allowed.
Lehigh is 6-4 all-time against Fairfield and will look to avenge its 11-8 loss to the Stags on the road last season.
The Mountain Hawks remain home for their third straight when they host Bucknell Saturday at 1 p.m. in a key Patriot League showdown.
