CAMDEN, N.J. - The Lehigh rowing team used a strong all-around effort at Saturday’s Frostbite Regatta as the Mountain Hawks garnered numerous medals in the final race of the fall season. The Varsity Eights had especially strong showings as the men placed second (6:27.45) and women fourth (7:32.34). In total, Lehigh had nine top-three finishes.
“I think we did a great job and did what we were supposed to,” said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. “The crews for the first time went down the race course and rode their own race, which is something we’ve been working on, and the results really showed that. It also gives us a great jumping point into winter training for the next couple months to make us faster for the spring.”
A pair of first-place finishers included the College Women’s Four w/Cox (C Boat) and College Women’s Freshman Eight (B Boat), posting times of 8:24.45 and 7:55.40, respectively. Three other Lehigh crews finished second and four placed third.
“The two varsity eights were both made up of even lineups and were racing against crews that were in their top lineups,” said Conley. “They raced earlier in the fours then we took the two fastest fours and combined them into the eights.”
Conley was pleased with the ending to the fall campaign as focus now shifts into winter training.
“We brought home a few medals and bringing home medals is always a good thing,” he said.
