PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Lehigh rowing team put forward a strong overall effort on Saturday at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia. The Mountain Hawks had numerous top 10 finishes, competing in six different events on the day. It marked the first action of the season for numerous crews, including all the freshmen.
The Lehigh coaching staff put forth numerous even crews rather than stacking their best rowers into one boat.
“I think it was a really solid performance,” said Lehigh assistant coach James Harding. “We definitely had one of our strongest performances at the Head of the Schuylkill in a number of years.”
The Mountain Hawks’ placed had a boat place ninth in the Men’s Open Fours, eighth in the Men’s Freshmen Eights and 10th in the Men’s Championship Eights. The women had a strong performance as well, highlighted by an 11th place finish in the Women’s Freshmen Eights. For the complete results, please click here or see below.
“It was the first race for the freshmen, and they did better than last year’s group who ended up having a great season,” said Harding. “This was a smooth and successful regatta for us to set the tempo for future regattas this season.
“Today speaks volumes of the depth of talent we have,” Harding continued. “We got good results without even putting the fastest possible lineups together. It was fairly even playing today. Everyone did well.”
Lehigh will return to action next weekend at the Rutgers Fall Classic before rounding out its fall race schedule at the Frostbite Regatta on Saturday, Nov. 10.
