BETHLEHEM, Pa. – On the heels of another successful season on the courts the Lehigh men’s tennis team placed five student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, announced Tuesday. Leading the way for the Mountain Hawks was junior Andrew Krentz, who was voted Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men’s tennis last month.
Krentz, who has posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average in three of his first six semesters, posted a 3.93 GPA in the spring, majoring in Lehigh’s IDEAS (Integrated Degree in Engineering and Arts and Sciences) program. The Illinois native holds a 3.94 cumulative GPA and has been one of Lehigh’s most consistent players at the bottom of the singles lineup.
Of the eight players on Lehigh’s 2011-12 roster, all five upperclassmen were named to the honor roll. Senior Edgars Rauza posted a 3.67 GPA in finance to come in second behind Krentz, while sophomore Mark Goldberg, a two-time All-Patriot League performer earned a 3.60 majoring in theatre. Junior Matt Savran and sophomore Timur Chernykh were also named to the Academic Honor Roll for the Mountain Hawks who were 13-8 in 2012.
To be eligible for the honor roll, the student-athlete must have a 3.20 or higher grade-point average during the academic semester which coincides with his/her sport.
Krentz is also a two-time member of the Academic All-Patriot League team and led the 44 men’s tennis student-athletes from around the league who were named to the Academic Honor Roll.
