BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women’s cross country team placed 13 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Six Mountain Hawks earned at least a 3.60 GPA, landing them on Lehigh’s Dean List as well capping off a stellar cross country season on and off the course. Senior design arts major Megan Hetzel led the way with a perfect 4.00, her fourth straight year on the Honor Roll.
Right behind Hetzel is senior accounting major Amanda Gosselin and freshman Shannon Wright who is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences as both attained a 3.94 GPA. Junior art history major Samantha Anderson was right behind them with a 3.88 GPA.
Along with Hetzel, senior Katherine Pierce was also placed on the Honor Roll for the fourth time in her illustrious Lehigh career. Pierce is in Lehigh’s IDEAS (Integrated Degree in Engineering, Arts and Science) program and is focusing on architecture and design arts with some civil engineering mixed in. She also has a minor in Jewish Studies.
In November, Pearce was named to the Patriot League Cross Country Academic All-League Team for the second time in her career as she earned All-Patriot League First Team honors for the third time after finishing second at the 2011 Patriot League Championship.
To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the semester of their sport’s competition.
The Mountain Hawks capped off a strong 2011 season finishing fourth at the Patriot League Championships and 17th at the Mid-Atlantic Qualifiers.
Nine of the 13 student-athletes will return to the team in the fall as Lehigh will look towards continuing its success on and off the course.
