BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Ten members of the Lehigh field hockey team were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday, capping off an impressive season on and off the field. The Mountain Hawks finished 3-2 in league play to earn a spot in the Patriot League Tournament while garnering numerous academic accolades including the Patriot League’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Lehigh’s academic success was led by senior Abby Tilton, whose 3.93 GPA in the IDEAS (Integrated Degree in Engineering, Arts and Sciences) program earned her a fourth straight appearance on the honor roll. Tilton’s strong season included being named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year while recording seven goals and a team-leading five assists on the field. The Franklin, N.J. native is also a mainstay on the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad.
Following Tilton are fellow seniors Caitlin Donnelly (3.87) and Allison Kowalski (3.80), and a pair of freshmen in Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson and Erika Schmidt, who both earned 3.85 GPAs in the Business school. To qualify for the honor roll, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 during the semester their sport takes place. Eight of Lehigh’s 10 field hockey representatives earned at least a 3.60, landing them on Lehigh's Dean’s list as well.
The Mountain Hawks finished their 2011 campaign strong, winning four of their last seven contests and earning their third Patriot League Tournament appearance in the last five seasons.
