Lehigh XC teams honored by USTFCCCA

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh cross country teams were both honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) by being named All-Academic Teams this the past weekend. The women’s team posted a fall GPA of 3.54 to earn the recognition, while the men’s team had a 3.41.

 

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.

 

On the women’s side a record number of teams (176) garnered USTFCCCA honors, which is 14 more than last year. This season also marked a record total on the men’s side as 135 teams were honored, which is 25 more than last year.

 

The Lehigh women had the highest GPA of any Lehigh athletic team this past fall as senior Dana Stellar led the way with a 3.93 GPA. 15 total members of the team were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and 11 of them had a GPA higher than 3.5.

 

The Mountain Hawk men were led by junior Evans Kosgei, the Patriot League Scholar Athlete of the Year, who also had a 3.93 GPA. Kosgei was recently named an USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree for his excellent work in the classroom and his success on the cross country course. Overall 17 members of the men’s team were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll this past fall with 13 of them earning a GPA over 3.5.
