BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior Evans Kosgei earned a Mid-Atlantic All-Region selection after he capped off the cross country season on Saturday at the Mid-Atlantic Regional race with a 17th place finish, covering the 10k course in a time of 32.36. Battling tough course conditions caused by remnants of Hurricane Ida, Kosgei’s finish was the highest ever for the men’s team at the NCAA Regional race.
Throughout the season Kosgei has helped the Mountain Hawk men to strong finishes, as Lehigh won the Lehigh Valley Championships and finished second at the Lafayette Invitational. At the Lafayette Invite, Kosgei finished the hilly 8k course in a time of 26:34 and placed 12th overall.
While this is Kosgei’s first All-Region honor, it is not his first postseason accolade for cross country. In 2008, the Moiben, Kenya native placed 12th at the Patriot League Championships earning second team all-league status. This season he improved upon his 2008 Patriot League performance with a second place finish, helping the Mountain Hawk men to a fourth place team finish. For his performance Kosgei garnered First Team All-League honors.
Besides his success on the course, Kosgei has also made great strides in the classroom. Earlier this month Kosgei was named the men’s cross country Patriot League Scholar Athlete of the Year. An Integrated Business and Engineering major with a focus in Computer Science, Kosgei has been named to the Lehigh student-athlete Honor Roll every semester and is one of three athletes to be honored as a PC Rossin Fellow for outstanding success.
