BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Katherine Pierce was named the Patriot League Runner of the Week while freshman Savanna Plombon was named the Patriot League Rookie Runner of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. Pierce placed first at the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet Friday with a time of 21:54.6 and Plombon finished second with a time of 22:11.6.

“I was thrilled for Katherine to win the dual race in her senior year and go out with that kind of feather in her cap,” said head coach Debbie Utesch. “And Savanna has shown she is going to be a consistent front runner for us.”

Pierce and Plombon led Lehigh to its seventh straight dual meet victory over Lafayette as the duo finished well ahead of Lafayette’s top runner who placed third.

It was Pierce’s second race of the season after she finished 12th at the Iona Meet of Champions on September 17th with a time of 23:02.6 as the Mountain Hawks placed fifth.

For Plombon, it was her third straight race with a Top 10 finish as she won the Lehigh Invitational to start the season and followed that up with an eighth place finish at the Iona Meet of Champions with a time of 22:45.94.

Pierce, Plombon and the rest of the Mountain Hawks will be back on its home course Friday for the 38th-annual Brooks-Paul Short Run. The all-day event will open with collegiate races throughout the morning and high school competitions in the afternoon. Over 170 colleges are scheduled to compete including dozens of nationally ranked programs.

“Paul Short is a very different animal than a dual race,” said Utesch. “It’s going to be a very deep field competitively and it will give us a chance to see where we stack up.”
