Mountain Hawks open spring with solid showing at Big 5 Invite
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Lehigh women’s track and field team opened up its spring season Saturday with some impressive performances at the Big 5 Invitational, hosted by Penn. E’Lana Lemon won the hammer throw with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 53.60m. Jimil Ataman placed second in the event and also qualified for ECACs with a distance of 52.87m.
“The throwers are the story of the meet,” said head coach Matt Utesch. “We didn’t have everyone in the meet, happy where we are out, overall pretty good meet. We have been pounding through the training and the meet is clearly our season opener, but there is a lot to build on.”
Rebecca Duhamel placed second in the discus throw with a distance of 38.53m while Ataman took third with a distance of 36.91m.
Tiffany Penge took fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.24m while Amanda Gosselin placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:37.19. And Melissa Romero placed fourth in the javelin throw with a distance of 36.99m.
Lehigh will next split up as a group of Mountain Hawks will compete next weekend in the ASICS Winthrop Invitational and another group will compete in the Lafayette 7 Way.
