Posted: 03/22/2013
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women’s track and field team will begin its outdoor season by competing in the Philadelphia College Classic on Saturday at Penn. In addition to host Penn and some other local colleges, the Mountain Hawks will compete against Temple, Saint Joseph’s, Villanova and La Salle.

A trio of seniors capped Lehigh’s indoor season with solid outings at the ECAC Indoor Championships and helped Lehigh finish 32nd out of the 53 teams. The all-senior 4x800-meter relay team of Brittany Pietrosh, Lauren Pietrosh, Kathleen Ryan and Julia Perry set a new school record in prelims by finishing with a time of 8:58.86. Senior E’Lana Lemon, the Patriot League Champion in the weight throw, posted a heave of 18.44 meters in the event to earn All-East honors for the first time in her career. Junior Jessica Kendzor also took home All-East honors after clocking in at 2:11.69 in the 800 meter run prelims and 2:12.47 in the finals. Her final time was good enough for seventh place.

Junior Brooke Astor has been the Mountain Hawks’ top outdoor athlete, earning All-East honors at the last two ECAC Outdoor Championships. She helped the Mountain Hawks earn five points by putting up 4,674 points in the heptathlon for a 39th place finish at the last year’s outdoor championships. Astor won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.85 seconds and placed fourth in both the javelin (34.42 meters) and 200-meter dash (26.29 seconds).

Saturday’s meet will begin at 11 a.m. on Franklin Field. The Brown and White’s next competition will be the Winthrop Invite on March 29.
