BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women’s track and field team will host rival Lafayette Saturday in a dual meet that is set to begin at 2 p.m. at Rauch Fieldhouse. The Mountain Hawks are coming off consecutive meet victories as Lehigh took first at West Point followed by the Mountain Hawk Invite. At last year’s dual with the Leopards, Lehigh came out on top 101-80 and the Mountain Hawks will look for the same result Saturday.
Saturday’s meet will be the 22nd dual meet between the schools as Lafayette holds a 5-15-1 all-time advantage.
At last year’s Lehigh-Lafayette dual, the Mountain Hawks won three of the six field events as Brook Astor was named the Female Field Athlete of the Meet after winning the high jump. Lehigh also took first in the long jump where Alexandra Doersam won the event with a distance of 5.59 meters and E’Lana Lemon won the weight throw with a distance of 16.02 meters.
Lehigh also took first in seven track events including the mile run, the 60-meter hurdles, the 400-meter dash, the 500-meter dash, the 800-meter run, the 1000-meter run and the 3,000-meter run. Elizabeth McManus won the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:20.49 and was named the Female Track Athlete of the Meet.
Lehigh most recently won the 12-team Mountain Hawk Invite as Lehigh dominated the field with 225.5 points. The Mountain Hawks had a lot of outstanding performances highlighted by Doersam who broke the school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.89 seconds.
Doersam’s record-breaking run came in the preliminaries of the event as the previous school record was held by junior Khaaleedah Smith who set it last year with a time of 7.90 seconds. Doersam went on to finish third in the event.
Astor also had a stellar performance as she won the pentathlon with a personal record 3393. Astor was just 57 away from qualifying for the IC4A/ECAC, which hasn’t been done in the event since Justina Barone did so in 2003. Astor placed first in the 60-meter hurdles and high jump and finished second in the shot put and long jump.
Freshman Savanna Plombon also had a breakout performance as she won the one mile run with a time of 5:03.49 and was a member of the winning 4X800-meter relay team that finished with a time of 9:46.28. For her efforts, Plombon was named the Patriot League Female Rookie of the Week.
Prior to Saturday’s dual meet, a banquet will be held honoring the 1992 Women’s Cross Country Team which was Lehigh’s first Patriot League Championship team.
After Saturday, Lehigh will compete Friday, February 3rd at the New Balance Invitational at the New York City Armory with competition set to begin at 10:50 a.m.
