BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women’s track and field senior Alexandra Doersam was named the Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week for her performance against rival Lafayette, as announced by the League Monday. The Islip, N.Y. native broke a pair of her own school records, sparking the Mountain Hawks to a dominating dual meet win over the Leopards on Saturday.
Doersam, the reigning indoor Patriot League long jump champion, set a school record in the event Saturday with a distance of 18-10ft (5.74m), surpassing her own record of 18-5ft (5.61m) which she set last season. Doersam’s jump also qualified her for the ECAC’s, beating the 5.70m that was required to qualify.
Doersam also took first in the 60-meter dash with a school record 7.84 seconds, breaking her own record of 7.89 seconds which she set at last week’s Mountain Hawk Invite.
She was also part of the 4X400-meter relay team that took first with a time of 4:00.02, beating the team from Lafayette by four seconds.
Doersam’s other track event came in the 200-meter dash where she finished second, just 0.08 seconds behind her teammate.
Doersam was part of a Lehigh team that swept every track event as the Mountain Hawks dominated Lafayette 109.5-71.5 in Lehigh’s lone dual meet this season. The victory was Lehigh’s third straight as the Mountain Hawks won the Mountain Hawk Invite the week before and the meet at West Point the week prior.
Doersam and the Mountain Hawks will look to keep the momentum going when they return to action Friday at the NYC Armory for the New Balance Invitational at 10:50 a.m.
