BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh sophomore Jill Sloand has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League women’s tennis team, it was announced Wednesday. Sloand leads the Mountain Hawks with a 3.94 cumulative grade point average as an industrial engineering major and has been a member of both the Dean’s List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

The Academic All-Patriot League teams are voted on by the league’s sports information directors. To be eligible a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better and be a starter or key contributor in his/her sport.

A Bethlehem native, Sloand saw significant action for the Mountain Hawks in both singles and doubles in 2012. Sloand played primarily at No. 5 and No. 6 singles and picked up a win versus rival Lafayette at No. 6 singles. She also was 4-9 in doubles action, including a 1-4 record in Patriot League matches, playing primarily at the No. 3 flight.

Sloand was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll after her freshman season and has been named to the Dean’s List and won Lehigh’s Faculty Athletics Council Academic Award in each of her first three semesters. She also posted a 4.0 GPA in the fall semester of her freshman year. Sloand is also a member of the Lehigh student-athlete council’s alumni relations committee.

Holy Cross senior Emily Marr was voted the league’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s tennis, and leads the list of six Academic All-League honorees. Along with Sloand, two players from Holy Cross plus one each from Army, Bucknell and Lafayette comprise the Academic All-League team.
