BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women’s tennis team will be hosting the Lehigh Fall Invitational beginning Friday at 3:30 p.m. The event will run through Sunday with action on the Ulrich Varsity Courts and inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks will be joined by Patriot League rivals Lafayette and Colgate for the final event of the fall season.
The Mountain Hawks will open up with singles matches against the Raiders beginning Friday at 3:30 p.m. Lehigh will then face off against Colgate in doubles on Saturday. There will be no official team scoring, but like the first Lehigh Invitational held two weeks ago all matchups will consist of six to eight singles matches and three or four doubles matches.
Lehigh’s last action came at the Lehigh Invitational October 14-16. The Mountain Hawks battled Loyola (Md.), Saint Francis (Pa.) and leag
ue rival Bucknell in the three-day event.
The highlight of the weekend for the Mountain Hawks was their performance against a Saint Francis squad that beat Lehigh last spring. On Saturday Lehigh swept the Red Flash in doubles and won four of six singles matches.
In singles play, Bilimoria posted a straight set win over Rafaela Panizza at No.1 singles. The Mountain Hawks also received wins from sophomores Emily Bruch and Molly Brooks and junior Jill Sloand in the bottom three flights.
Lehigh finished up Saturday by taking two of three doubles matches from league rival Bucknell. Farrell and Bilimoria lost in a tiebreak at first doubles, but Lehigh’s other two teams posted victories.
This Lehigh Invitational will wrap up the Mountain Hawks fall season, with the Brown and White slated to open their spring campaign in late January.
