Lehigh places five on women's tennis Academic Honor Roll

Posted: 06/20/2012
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh’s women’s tennis program landed five student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, announced Wednesday. Sophomore Jill Sloand was one of two Patriot League women’s tennis student-athletes to earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the spring.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a 3.20 or higher GPA during the academic semester which coincides with her sport. The league announced the Academic Honor Roll lists for all seven of its winter/spring sports Wednesday as part of a week-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of Title IX.

Last month Sloand was named to the Academic All-Patriot League team. She posted a 4.0 GPA in the spring, majoring in industrial engineering. The Bethlehem native currently holds a 3.95 cumulative GPA.

Not far behind Sloand was freshman Abby Farrell who earned a 3.91 in the spring in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science. Also named to the Academic Honor Roll from the women’s tennis team were senior Liz Piscitelli and sophomores Taylor Hampshire and Kathleen Larkin.

A total of 38 student-athletes were named to the women’s tennis Academic Honor Roll, led by Holy Cross senior Emily Marr, who was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year back in May.
