Lehigh completes opening weekend of fall play at Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Lehigh women’s tennis team opened its season over the weekend at the Eastern Tennis Championships, hosted by Army on the Malek Tennis Courts and inside the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. Sophomore Jenai Bilimoria led the way for Lehigh, winning a championship round match at Flight D singles, while Mountain Hawk players accounted for one additional singles win and one doubles win on the weekend.
 
Bilimoria opened her draw by downing Gaby Sarrate of Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-5, 6-0. In her next match Bilimoria was upended by Madison Shoemaker of Seton Hall 8-1. Later in the weekend, Bilimoria played in the DUTY singles bracket where she dropped an 8-2 decision to Elizabeth Verow of Seton Hall.
 
Freshman Abigail Farrell picked up the other singles win for Lehigh, downing Lucy Bird of Bryant 8-4 in the consolation bracket at B singles.
 
Other Mountain Hawks who competed were sophomore Taylor Hampshire at A singles, senior Liz Piscitelli at C singles and freshman Gabby Drucker, who went 0-1 at DUTY singles.
 
In doubles action, Lehigh was represented by freshman Molly Brooks and sophomore Jill Sloand. The duo dropped their first round match to a team from St. Bonaventure, but battled to win their first consolation match over Macaluso and O’Donavan of Marist 8-5. Brooks and Sloand were knocked out of the consolation bracket with an 8-1 loss to a team from Albany.
 
The Mountain Hawks will resume their fall slate when they host the Lehigh Invitational, October 14-16 on the Goodman Campus.
