BETHLEHEM, Pa. – As the Mountain Hawks gear up for the start of the 2011-12 season, they learned Friday that they were picked fifth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll announced Friday. Lehigh garnered 46 points in the poll which was voted on by the league’s coaches and sports information directors.
Lehigh finished sixth at last year’s Patriot League championships following a 4-4 dual campaign. Rob Herb enters his eighth season with school record holders Priscilla Barletta and Paola Simon and senior Lauren Armstrong leading the way. The Mountain Hawks also have quality depth among its junior class and a sophomore class led by top all-around performer Meredith Bayer. Lehigh’s squad has also been bolstered with the addition of seven freshmen.
The defending Patriot League Champions from Colgate were picked to repeat, earning 95 points and 13 first place votes. Navy won the 2010 team title and was picked second with the other three first place votes. Bucknell was picked third, followed by Army, Lehigh, American Lafayette and Holy Cross.
The Mountain Hawks will hold their annual Brown and White meet on Friday September 30 before opening the regular season at Holy Cross on Sunday, October 9.
