BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh freshman Alissa Leung has been named the Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. The award is Leung’s second of the season, as she also earned Patriot League honors for her performance against Marist in the first week of January.
Leung enjoyed another strong day in the pool at Penn State on Saturday, where the Mountain Hawks fell to the 20th-ranked Nittany Lions and were edged by Saint Francis (Pa.) in a tri-meet, Lehigh’s final competition before the Patriot League Championships. Leung continued to impress in the backstroke events, taking third overall in the 100 back and fourth overall in the 200. In both races, Leung posted the best times among Lehigh and Saint Francis (Pa.) swimmers. She posted two of Lehigh’s three head-to-head event wins against the Red Flash.
The Garden City, N.Y. native also took second overall in the 400 IM with a time of 4:38.19, though Penn State was swimming unscored in the later stages of the meet. She also swam the backstroke leg as part of a 200 yard medley team for the Brown and White.
Leung has been dominant in her freshman campaign, winning at least two individual events in eight out of ten meets this season.
Leung will look to continue her winning ways as she and the rest of the Mountain Hawks next take to the pool for the Patriot League Championships, February 16-18 at Navy’s Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Md.
