Li and Greeley named 2012 women’s soccer captains
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Senior Isabelle Li and junior Murphee Greeley have been named Lehigh women’s soccer captains, as announced by head coach Eric Lambinus on Wednesday. The duo looks to lead the Mountain Hawks back to the Patriot League Tournament, where they won the league title just two seasons ago.
“The program is really pleased with the selection of Izzy Li and Murphee Greeley as our team captains for the 2012 season,” said Lambinus. “Both have been very involved in the leadership program run by [Athletics Leadership Coordinator] Julie Sterrett and will be able to use that training to make a big impact with our team. They are very strong leaders, in very different ways, and have the support of their teammates and the coaching staff. What’s also important is they both understand that leadership comes from the entire team, and will work with their teammates to bring it out of everyone.”
Li enjoyed a strong junior campaign, scoring two goals in 17 games (16 starts). She scored a goal in two of the first three games, accounting for Lehigh’s only goal in a season-opening tie at Seton Hall while also finding the back of the net at Monmouth.
Greeley has enjoyed tremendous success since stepping foot on campus. Halfway through her career, she owns 21 points (eight goals, five assists). After posting 10 points as a freshman, she scored a team-leading five goals (adding an assist) last season. The First Team All-Patriot League honoree had a career-high two goals and four points at Quinnipiac. She followed two days later with a goal at NJIT to earn Patriot League and ECAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Greeley scored the game’s only goal against eventual Patriot League finalist Navy, while also tallying her fifth of the season at Colgate.
The Mountain Hawks will open the regular season against Seton Hall on Friday, Aug. 24 at 4 p.m. before hitting the road for games at Providence, Binghamton and Monmouth.
