BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After netting Lehigh’s first hat-trick since 2004, senior forward Liz Carlos was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Carlos netted all three goals for the Mountain Hawks, who built a 3-0 lead over Quinnipiac on Sunday
before holding on for a 3-2 win, the first in the Brown and White for Lehigh head coach Eric Lambinus.
Carlos opened the scoring for Lehigh in the sixth minute on Sunday with a shot from 14 yards out that beat the keeper to give Lehigh a 1-0 lead. Thirteen minutes later, Carlos took a feed from freshman Murphee Greeley and scored again to give the Mountain Hawks a two goal advantage.
Lehigh’s leading scorer in 2009, Carlos completed the hat-trick by converting a penalty kick 11 minutes into the second half. She became the first Lehigh player to score three goals in a game since Gena Lewandowski ’07 did so against Quinnipiac in the 2004 season-opener.
The Connecticut native moved into the top five in school history in both goals and points. Carlos is tied for fourth all time with 14 career goals, and ranks fifth at Lehigh with 38 career points. She is the second Mountain Hawk to be honored in as many weeks, as junior Lauren Mains was named Goalkeeper of the Week for her efforts in the season-opening 1-1 draw at Syracuse.
Carlos and the Mountain Hawks will return to the pitch on Friday in Philadelphia at the Penn Invitational. Lehigh (1-0-1) will face a pair of Atlantic 10 teams on the weekend, beginning with Dayton, Friday at 3 p.m. and ending with Saint Joseph’s Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
