Why Lehigh? “I come from a small town in northeast Pa, so the small/community feel of Lehigh makes it feel like home to me. The amount of support we receive from our alumni and fans is what sets our school apart from many other programs. Furthermore, Lehigh academically is pointing me in the right direction for my future. “
On Coach Santoro: “Coach Santoro is a man of character. Such a quality seems to be fading in Division I athletics. Coach Santoro believes in not only developing people on the wrestling mat, but also developing people of integrity. I am honored to be able to wrestle for him.”
In 2011-12: Deferred eligibility… went 21-6 competing unattached in open competition… placed in six open tournaments… won 157 pound title at UB Open in November… posted runner-up finishes at TCNJ Open, Mat Town Invitational and Edinboro Opens… took sixth at Nittany Lion Open… placed fourth at 165 at season-ending National Collegiate Open… had five falls and 11 bonus wins.
In secondary school: Two-time Pennsylvania AA state champion… amassed 155-14 career record… placed second in state as a sophomore… posted two top-three finishes at Powerade Tournament and placed at NHSCA sophomore and junior nationals… placed at East Stroudsburg and Nittany Lion Opens when still in high school… graduated in 2010, but deferred enrollment to Lehigh while successfully battling Hodgkin’s Disease… returned to competition going 4-2 at University Nationals in April 2011.
Personal: Son of Shane and Suzanne Hess.
