In 2012-13: Went 18-5 in first full year as starter at 149… team captain… suffered season-ending i
njury in first match at EIWA Championships… placed seventh at the Midlands Championships in late December… defeated two nationally-ranked foes in home dual meets in 24 hour span in January… won final 13 matches of season before withdrawing from EIWA tournament due to injury… earned at-large berth to NCAA Championships but was unable to compete.
In 2011-12: Emerged as starter at 149 late in the season… went on to win EIWA title at 149 as the No. 6 seed… shut out Kevin Tao of American 4-0 in the finals… qualified for first NCAA tournament, where he dropped two close matches… won title at season-opening Knight Point Clarion Open… made dual meet debut up at 157 vs. Pittsburgh… won final five dual appearances, including fall against Frankie Porras of Purdue at Northeast Duals… placed eighth at the Midlands Championships in late December… had five falls and nine bonus wins… named to NWCA All-Academic Team…
In 2010-11: Went 20-11 competing in seven different open tournaments… placed third at the Wilkes Open and fifth at the National Collegiate Open… finished the year with six falls and eight bonus wins.
In 2009-10: Posted 9-5 record competing in Knight Point Clarion, East Stroudsburg and Millersville Opens….placed fourth at Clarion opening in November, one of three Mountain Hawks to place at 149 in that tournament.
In 2008-09: Deferred eligibility… competed unattached in East Stroudsburg Open, Mat Town Invitational and Wilkes Open.
In secondary school: Three-time AA Pennsylvania place winner… placed third as sophomore and seventh as a junior before finishing as state runner-up at 135 in senior season… three-time WPIAL champion.
Personal: Son of Rick and Susie Welsh… brother Trevor (21)… enjoys mountain biking, fishing, golf and softball… owns a 3.28 GPA in rigorous chemical engineering program.
