BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh wrestling junior Robert Hamlin has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District II At-Large team, it was announced Friday. A two-time EIWA Champion and All-American on the mats, Hamlin is also one of the strongest Mountain Hawks academically, as he becomes Lehigh’s first wrestling Academic All-District selection since Brad Dillon in 2004.
Hamlin enjoyed another outstanding season on the mats in 2011-12, posting a 31-3 record, including a 16-1 mark in dual meets. He won his second consecutive EIWA Championship at 184, downing eventual national champion Steve Bosak of Cornell in the finals for the second straight year. Hamlin also won the prestigious Midlands Championships in December 2011. In the 2010-11 season, Hamlin became the first NCAA Wrestling All-American from the state of Vermont with his runner-up finish. This year he earned his second straight All-America honor with a fourth place finish. Hamlin owns an 81-18 career record and is a three-time NCAA qualifier.
Earlier this month, Hamlin was named to the NWCA All-Academic team for the second straight year. Hamlin carries a 3.36 GPA as a Materials Science and Engineering major. A two-year team captain, Hamlin is also active in Lehigh Athletics’ Leadership Academy and Emerging Leaders program.
The Academic All-District II At-Large teams are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) whose schools are in the region.
To be eligible for the award, individuals must be at least a sophomore, as well as a starter or key reserve on her team with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.30. CoSIDA’s District II consists of schools in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
The men’s at large program consists of the following sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Hamlin is now eligible for the Capital One Academic All-American At-Large team which will be announced next month.
