Lehigh places three in Midlands finals; finishes sixth overall
The final day of the 50th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships started well for Lehigh on Sunday. The Mountain Hawks placed three in the finals and had six wrestlers place in the top eight. Unfortunately, Sunday night’s final session was unkind to the Mountain Hawks as Lehigh wrestlers went 0-3 in finals matches as the Mountain Hawks finished sixth in the team race with 74 team points.

Napoli, Brown, Hamlin reach semis to pace Lehigh at Midlands
Three Lehigh wrestlers advanced to Sunday’s championship semifinals, to pace the Mountain Hawks in a marathon opening day at the 50th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships Saturday at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Senior Robert Hamlin, junior Joey Napoli and sophomore Nathaniel Brown reached the semis, while five other Mountain Hawks remain alive in consolations.

Lehigh wrestlers return to action at 50th Midlands Championships
Following a break for final exams and the holidays, No. 25 Lehigh returns to the mats at the 50th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, hosted by Northwestern Saturday and Sunday at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Mountain Hawks last competed on December 6 when they dropped a 26-9 decision at Iowa. Lehigh returns to one of the college wrestling’s premier in-season tournaments with a full squad for the fourth straight year.

Eric Hess to be sidelined indefinitely
Lehigh wrestler Eric Hess has been sidelined from competition indefinitely due to issues stemming from his successful treatment of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Hess, who has started all six of the Mountain Hawks’ duals this season at 165, is in his first season of eligibility for Lehigh. He was previously diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in the spring of 2010 and successfully beat the disease enabling a return to competition.

January 6 Lehigh-Cornell dual close to selling out
Lehigh Athletics has announced that tickets for the Lehigh-Cornell wrestling match on Sunday, January 6 are close to selling out. The only seats remaining for the highly anticipated dual between the EIWA rivals are the first 2 rows in the 200 level of Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. All lower level seats have been sold. Fans are encouraged to get their tickets before the match is a complete sellout.

No. 5 Iowa rides fast start to 26-9 win over No. 23 Lehigh
The Lehigh wrestling team visited Carver-Hawkeye Arena for the first time since 2002, but the host Hawkeyes greeted the Mountain Hawks rudely, as No. 5 Iowa raced to a 23-0 lead en route to a 26-9 win over No. 23 Lehigh on Thursday. The Hawkeyes won the first six bouts and seven of the ten matches overall.

Mountain Hawks to wrestle at No. 5 Iowa Thursday
For the first time since 2002 the Lehigh wrestling team heads to Iowa as the 23rd-ranked Mountain Hawks meet the fifth-ranked Hawkeyes Thursday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Mountain Hawks are coming off an up-and-down weekend at home where they posted an impressive 34-7 win over Hofstra before stumbling 24-12 against Penn in their EIWA opener. Senior Robert Hamlin, junior Joey Napoli and sophomore Nathaniel Brown were the only three wrestlers to post 2-0 marks last weekend.

Penn stuns No. 21 Lehigh 24-12 in Sheridan Dual
Less than 24 hours after an impressive 34-7 win over Hofstra, the Lehigh wrestling team was unable to deliver a similar performance in Saturday’s match with Penn as the 21st-ranked Mountain Hawks fell to the Quakers 24-12 in the annual Billy Sheridan Memorial Dual inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall.

Mountain Hawks roll to 34-7 win over visiting Hofstra
In its first action in nearly two weeks, No. 21 Lehigh returned home with a 34-7 win over Hofstra Friday night inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Sophomore Anthony Salupo knocked off eighth-ranked Luke Vaith 8-5 at 141 highlighting a night in which the Mountain Hawks won eight bouts, scoring bonus points in five of the eight wins with two pins, a technical fall and two major decisions.

After weekend off, No. 21 Lehigh set to host Hofstra and Penn
Following a rare Thanksgiving weekend away from competition, No. 21 Lehigh returns home for a pair of duals against regional foes. The Mountain Hawks will host Hofstra Friday night before welcoming EIWA rival Penn Saturday afternoon in the conference opener for both teams. Lehigh went 1-1 on its first road trip of the season, falling 29-6 at Penn State on November 16 before bouncing back with an 18-12 win at Bloomsburg the following day.

Wins over top six foes propel Napoli to EIWA weekly honors
Following a 2-0 weekend that included two wins over wrestlers ranked in the top six nationally, Lehigh junior Joey Napoli was named EIWA Co-Wrestler of the Week on Monday. Napoli posted wins over No. 2 Dylan Alton of Penn State on Friday night and No. 6 Frank Hickman of Bloomsburg as the Mountain Hawks went 1-1 in duals against the Nittany Lions and Huskies.

Lehigh tops Bloomsburg, 18-12, for second victory
After falling to No. 2 Penn State the night before, the Lehigh wrestling team rebounded with an 18-12 victory over the Bloomsburg Huskies on Saturday afternoon at the Nelson Fieldhouse. Junior Joey Napoli earned an important win at 157 over sixth-ranked Frank Hickman en route to the Mountain Hawks’ second victory of the season. Lehigh will now be idle until November 30 when it will host Hofstra at 7 p.m.

Napoli, Delia notch wins as Lehigh falls at rival Penn State
Junior Joey Napoli upset second ranked Dylan Alton at 157 but two-time defending national champion and No. 2 ranked Penn State won eight of the first nine bouts en route to a 29-6 win over No. 21 Lehigh Friday night at Rec Hall. The Mountain Hawks were competitive in several other matches, losing four by a combined seven points, as they fall to 1-1 on the season.

Lehigh hits the road for battles with No. 2 Penn State, Bloomsburg
The Lehigh wrestling team takes to the road for the first time this season with a pair of weekend duals against in-state foes. The 21st-ranked Mountain Hawks will first visit two-time defending national champion Penn State Friday in the 101st dual meet between the longtime Eastern rivals. Then, Lehigh will stop in Bloomsburg to face the Huskies Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks opened their season with a 23-16 win over Binghamton on November 8.

Mountain Hawks to host Binghamton Thursday in 2012-13 opener
The 104th season of Lehigh wrestling begins Thursday night as the 21st-ranked Mountain Hawks host Binghamton. Fans will get their first look at a Lehigh squad that finished eighth at last year’s NCAA Championships, but lost three All-Americans to graduation, after last week’s Brown and White Wrestle-offs were cancelled due to Superstorm Sandy. Two-time EIWA Champion and All-American Robert Hamlin leads a Lehigh squad that will feature four freshmen making their varsity debuts.

Hamlin downs Steinhaus 5-3 at NWCA All-Star Classic
Lehigh senior Robert Hamlin unofficially opened his 2012-13 season with a 5-3 win over Kevin Steinhaus of Minnesota at 184 pounds in the 47th Annual NWCA All-Star Classic Saturday night at American University’s Bender Arena. Hamlin, a two-time EIWA Champion and All-American was the first Lehigh wrestler to compete at the All-Star Classic since 2004.

Mountain Hawks making progress towards start of new season
The Lehigh wrestling team is continuing preparations for the 2012-13 season. The Mountain Hawks have been hard at work for more than two weeks of official practice. Things have been slightly different in the room with 15 freshmen on the roster, but head coach Pat Santoro likes what he’s seen so far and knows there is still plenty of work still to be done.

Hamlin selected to compete at NWCA All-Star Classic
Lehigh senior Robert Hamlin has been selected to participate in the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic, November 3 in Washington, D.C., the NWCA announced late Monday night. The two-time EIWA Champion and All-American will battle Kevin Steinhaus of Minnesota at the 184 pound weight class at the All-Star Classic, the annual meet featuring the nation’s top wrestlers.

Santoro adds Drew Headlee to wrestling coaching staff
Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro has announced that former Pittsburgh All-American Drew Headlee has joined the Mountain Hawks coaching staff as a volunteer assistant. Headlee will train and work with the Lehigh Valley Athletic Club, a position that allows him to assist the Lehigh program on a volunteer basis. He will work primarily with Lehigh’s young and talented group of lightweights.

Lehigh announces 2012-13 wrestling schedule
Eight home duals and visits to national powers Penn State and Iowa highlight the 2012-13 Lehigh wrestling schedule announced Tuesday by head coach Pat Santoro. In all, the Mountain Hawks will face three of the top five finishers and nine of the top 20 teams from last year’s NCAA Championships, including the two-time defending national champion Nittany Lions in the 101st meeting between the longtime Eastern rivals.

Lehigh finishes near top of Capital One Cup Men’s Standings
Following a stellar athletics season, Lehigh has finished 32nd in the final Capital One Cup Men’s Standings. The Mountain Hawks garnered 24 points due to three top-10 finishes (football, wrestling and men’s lacrosse). Lehigh finished ahead of numerous power schools including Michigan, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Connecticut, Oklahoma, Syracuse, Michigan State and much more.

Hamlin named to Academic All-America third team
Lehigh wrestling junior Robert Hamlin has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America At-Large third team it was announced Thursday. In addition to another All-America campaign on the mat, Hamlin excelled in the classroom in 2011-12 as well and is rewarded with Lehigh wrestling's first-ever Academic All-America honor from CoSIDA.

Strobel inducted into National Wrestling Hall of Fame
Former Lehigh head coach Greg Strobel was formally inducted as a distinguished member into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as the Museum hosted its 36th annual Honors Weekend June 1-2. Strobel spent 13 seasons as Lehigh’s head coach, where he won six EIWA Championships and helped guide the Brown and White back to national prominence.

Hamlin earns Academic All-District At-Large honors
Lehigh wrestling junior Robert Hamlin has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District II At-Large team, it was announced Friday. A two-time EIWA Champion and All-American on the mats, Hamlin is also one of the strongest Mountain Hawks academically, as he becomes Lehigh’s first wrestling Academic All-District selection since Brad Dillon in 2004.

Lehigh wrestlers garner academic honors from NWCA
On the heels of another successful season on the mats, the Lehigh wrestling program was recognized for its academic work as the National Wrestling Coaches Association announced its All-Academic Individuals and top 30 teams on Tuesday. The Mountain Hawks ranked ninth in the country with a 3.18 team GPA, while seniors Brian Tanen and Zach Rey and juniors Robert Hamlin and Shane Welsh were named to the individual All-Academic Team.

A strong overall NCAA tournament for Lehigh ended on a bittersweet note as seniors Brandon Hatchett and Zach Rey were denied national championships after losing in the national finals Saturday night at Scottrade Center. The NCAA Wrestling Championships return to St. Louis for the first time since 2009 as Lehigh sends eight wrestlers to Scottrade Center for the 82nd edition of the national tournament. Four Mountain Hawks earn seeds for NCAA Championships
Four Lehigh wrestlers earned top-12 seeds in the upcoming NCAA tournament as the seeds and brackets for the championships, set for March 15-17 at Scottrade Center in St. Louis, were announced Wednesday. Lehigh crowns three champs; falls 2.5 points short of EIWA title
After entering day two of the EIWA Championships 17.5 points behind Cornell, Lehigh battled back into title contention. The Mountain Hawks won their first three finals bouts, to take the lead, but the Big Red regained the lead Lehigh had to settle for second place by a mere 2.5 points, as Cornell won its sixth straight tile 151.5-149 Sunday at Jadwin Gym.

Mountain Hawks head to Princeton for 108th EIWA Championships
Lehigh joins the other 13 EIWA member institutions in Princeton, N.J. for the 108th EIWA Championships, hosted by Princeton at Jadwin Gym. The EIWA is the nation’s oldest wrestling conference, with Lehigh being the historically dominant team, having won 197 individual titles and 34 team championships. Lehigh finished second at last year’s tournament and will look to win its first team title since 2006.

No. 15 Lehigh closed out the dual meet season in style, winning nine of ten bouts in a 38-4 rout of Princeton Saturday night inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Mountain Hawks return from weekend off with trip to New England
After a weekend off from competition, No. 15 Lehigh heads to New England for its final road trip of the dual meet season. The Mountain Hawks will first head to Providence, R.I. to meet Brown on Saturday before facing off against Harvard in Cambridge, Mass. on Sunday. Two weeks ago Lehigh split two matches on its longest road trip of the season, winning at Central Michigan on January 27 before falling at Oklahoma two days later.

One day after defeating EIWA rival Navy 28-6 inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall 11 members of the Lehigh wrestling team, including several starters, competed at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Classic Sunday at Millersville University. No. 15 Mountain Hawks take down Navy 28-6
No. 15 Lehigh snapped its two match losing streak, winning eight of ten bouts in a 28-6 win over EIWA rival Navy Saturday night inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Senior Sean Bilodeau and sophomore Steve Dutton posted bonus point wins for the Mountain Hawks, while freshman Mason Beckman edged 17th-ranked Aaron Kalil in overtime to lead Lehigh’s effort.

No. 15 Lehigh returns home to battle Navy Saturday night
The 15th-ranked Lehigh wrestling team returns home for the first time in over a month to open up a three-dual home stand Saturday night against EIWA rival Navy. The Mountain Hawks are looking to bounce back from two straight dual losses including a 24-12 setback at Cornell on Sunday. Navy is Lehigh’s second most-often wrestled opponent behind Penn State, and the Mountain Hawks will be looking to avenge an upset loss last year to the Mids in Annapolis.

Mountain Hawks drop 24-12 decision Sunday at Cornell
On a day in which six of the ten matches were decided by two points or less, No. 4 Cornell won seven of ten bouts hand No. 12 Lehigh a 24-12 setback Sunday at Newman Arena. No. 12 Lehigh heads to N.Y. to face No. 4 Cornell Sunday
Lehigh opens up the 2012 portion of its schedule Sunday afternoon as the 12th-ranked Mountain Hawks visit No. 4 Cornell in a matchup of the top two programs in the EIWA over the last decade. Midlands title leads Hamlin to EIWA weekly honor
Lehigh junior Robert Hamlin has been named EIWA Co-Wrestler of the Week, it was announced Tuesday. Hamlin went 5-0 last week at the 49th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships to capture the title at 184 as he became the fourth Lehigh wrestler to win an undergraduate Midlands title. This marks the second time in a month that Hamlin has been recognized by the EIWA.
