Lehigh sends four to EIWA finals; sits in second after day one
With its three returning All-Americans leading the charge, Lehigh advanced four wrestlers to the finals of the 108th EIWA Championships, capping a strong performance on day one at Princeton’s Jadwin Gym. Senior Brandon Hatchett, junior Robert Hamlin and senior Zach Rey are joined in the finals by upstart junior Shane Welsh, who advanced to the finals at 149 from the No. 6 seed.

Seeds, brackets announced for 108th EIWA Championships
Seeds and brackets for the 108th EIWA Championships were announced Friday night following a meeting of the conference’s head coaches. Eight of Lehigh’s ten entrants were seeded in the top eight, with seven of those eight Mountain Hawks earning top three seeds. Eight Mountain Hawks will compete in the opening round while two received first-round byes.

Mountain Hawks head to Princeton for 108th EIWA Championships
Lehigh joins the other 13 EIWA member institutions in Princeton, N.J. for the 108th EIWA Championships, hosted by Princeton at Jadwin Gym. The EIWA is the nation’s oldest wrestling conference, with Lehigh being the historically dominant team, having won 197 individual titles and 34 team championships. Lehigh finished second at last year’s tournament and will look to win its first team title since 2006.

Kennedy, Rey go out with pins as No. 15 Lehigh drubs Princeton
No. 15 Lehigh closed out the dual meet season in style, winning nine of ten bouts in a 38-4 rout of Princeton Saturday night inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. On a night when Lehigh recognized its seven seniors, Joe Kennedy and Zach Rey closed out the match with back-to-back falls, as the Mountain Hawks scored bonus points in six of their wins. Lehigh finishes the dual season at 12-5 overall, 7-1 against EIWA opponents.

Lehigh pounds Harvard to cap successful weekend in New England
No. 15 Lehigh completed a dominant performance on its weekend trip to New England as the Mountain Hawks rolled past Harvard 40-6 Sunday at the Malkin Athletic Center. The Mountain Hawks won nine matches for the second straight day, and posted seven bonus wins. Senior Zach Rey won by major decision to become Lehigh’s career leader in dual meet victories.

No. 15 Lehigh rolls to 35-3 win over Brown
No. 15 Lehigh opened its weekend trip through New England by defeating Brown 35-3 Saturday at Pizzitola Sports Center. The Mountain Hawks dropped the opening bout but won the next eight bouts plus a forfeit to senior Zach Rey at heavyweight. Five of the eight wins were by major decision as Lehigh moves to 10-5 on the dual season.

Mountain Hawks return from weekend off with trip to New England
After a weekend off from competition, No. 15 Lehigh heads to New England for its final road trip of the dual meet season. The Mountain Hawks will first head to Providence, R.I. to meet Brown on Saturday before facing off against Harvard in Cambridge, Mass. on Sunday. Two weeks ago Lehigh split two matches on its longest road trip of the season, winning at Central Michigan on January 27 before falling at Oklahoma two days later.

Lehigh can't hold early lead as Oklahoma rallies for 22-16 win
No. 14 Lehigh stormed out to a 16-0 lead but No. 10 Oklahoma stormed back to win the final five bouts, including four bonus point wins as the Sooners rallied for 22-16 win over the Mountain Hawks Sunday at McCasland Field House. A late first period pin by Oklahoma’s Jordan Keller gave the Sooners momentum, before Nick Lester gave the hosts the lead with a 6-1 decision over Anthony Salupo at 149.

Mountain Hawks pull away from tough CMU squad for 23-11 win
Locked in an 11-11 tie after six bouts, No. 14 Lehigh won the final four bouts of the evening to defeat No. 21 Central Michigan 23-11 Friday night at McGuirk Arena. Decisions by freshman Nate Brown and junior Robert Hamlin staked the Mountain Hawks to a six point lead, while senior Kadeem Samuels clinched Lehigh’s fourth straight win with a 10-4 decision at 197.

No. 14 Lehigh to face tough tests this weekend at CMU, Oklahoma
Two tough road tests await No. 15 Lehigh as the Mountain Hawks head to the Midwest for a pair of duals this weekend. Lehigh first heads to Central Michigan Friday night to face the 21st-ranked Chippewas before heading down to Oklahoma to face No. 10 Oklahoma Sunday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks have won their last three duals, including wins over Rutgers and Bucknell last weekend, to move to 8-4 on the dual season.

Four major decisions propel No. 15 Lehigh past Bucknell, 25-15
Wrestling its second dual in less than 24 hours, No. 15 Lehigh picked up its third straight dual win against an EIWA opponent, downing Bucknell 25-15 Saturday inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. The Mountain Hawks won five bouts plus a forfeit to junior Robert Hamlin, and posted four wins by major decision as they improved to 8-4 overall and 4-1 against EIWA opponents.

Mountain Hawks ready for weekend duals vs. Rutgers, Bucknell
No. 15 Lehigh closes out its three match home stand with dual meets against a pair of EIWA foes in No. 24 Rutgers Friday at Stabler Arena in the annual Billy Sheridan Memorial Dual and the Bison of Bucknell Saturday at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Lehigh enjoyed a successful return home last weekend, downing Navy 28-6. The following day, Lehigh crowned six champions and had nine place winners at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Classic at Millersville.

Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office completes move to Stabler Arena
Effective January 11 and communicated via the Lehigh daily digest, the Athletics Ticket Office will be permanently located at Stabler Arena. The Stabler Arena ticket office staff and Athletics ticket office staff are now fully integrated as part of the Athletics Business Services team.

Rey nabs 100th win as Lehigh crowns six champs at Millersville
One day after defeating EIWA rival Navy 28-6 inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall 11 members of the Lehigh wrestling team, including several starters, competed at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Classic Sunday at Millersville University. It was a strong day for the Mountain Hawks, who crowned six individual champions including senior Zach Rey who picked up his 100th career victory en route to the heavyweight title.

No. 15 Lehigh returns home to battle Navy Saturday night
The 15th-ranked Lehigh wrestling team returns home for the first time in over a month to open up a three-dual home stand Saturday night against EIWA rival Navy. The Mountain Hawks are looking to bounce back from two straight dual losses including a 24-12 setback at Cornell on Sunday. Navy is Lehigh’s second most-often wrestled opponent behind Penn State, and the Mountain Hawks will be looking to avenge an upset loss last year to the Mids in Annapolis.

On a day in which six of the ten matches were decided by two points or less, No. 4 Cornell won seven of ten bouts hand No. 12 Lehigh a 24-12 setback Sunday at Newman Arena. The Big Red built a 17-0 lead at intermission and clinched the dual when Steve Bosak upset top-ranked Robert Hamlin 2-1 at 184.

No. 12 Lehigh heads to N.Y. to face No. 4 Cornell Sunday
Lehigh opens up the 2012 portion of its schedule Sunday afternoon as the 12th-ranked Mountain Hawks visit No. 4 Cornell in a matchup of the top two programs in the EIWA over the last decade. The Mountain Hawks return to dual competition after placing seventh at the Midlands Championships last week, with Robert Hamlin capturing the title at 184 and Joe Kennedy and Shane Welsh joining him as place winners.
