BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the fourth time in her career, senior co-captain Leigh Ann Torcivia has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday. The Rumson, N.J. native earned the honor after two stellar performances last week - Wednesday at Fairfield and Saturday vs. rival Lafayette at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
Torcivia continued her outstanding all-around play, recording five ground balls, five draw controls and four points (two goals, two assists) against Fairfield – game-highs in all three categories. Torcivia’s contributions helped the Mountain Hawks to a lead at the end of the first half, though they would eventually fall to the Stags on the day.
Torcivia then added four goals and an assist against Lafayette Saturday, including an assist on the eventual game winner, and two tallies in the second half to preserve the Lehigh lead. She also added three ground balls, four draw controls and a caused turnover. Her five points and four controls again tied game-highs as Lehigh downed the Leopards 13-10.
It is her second award of the season as she was named the Midfield Player of the Week on Feb. 20.
Torcivia, who was named the Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, made the switch to midfield at the beginning of the season, and her play at both ends of the field continues to shine as she leads the team in points (31) assists (12) and ground balls (29). She is tied for the team lead in caused turnovers (10) and is second in goals (19) and draw controls (28).
Torcivia and the Mountain Hawks will look to stay in the win column as they travel to Villanova to take on the Wildcats Tuesday. Opening draw is set for 6 p.m. at Villanova Stadium.
