BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh freshman attacker Carli Sukonik continues a stellar freshman season by earning a Patriot League Rookie of the Week award for her performances last week against Binghamton and Bucknell, announced by the league office Monday. It marks Sukonik’s second career honor, both coming in the last three weeks.
The Mountain Hawks snapped a two-game losing streak with a 17-10 win over Binghamton Wednesday, in which Sukonik scored a career-high eight goals, marking the most by a Mountain Hawk since Lauren Dykstra’s eight against American in 2009.
The Penn Valley, Pa. native continued to roll Saturday at Bucknell, as she showcased her all-around game with five points (four goals, one assist) seven draw controls, a groundball and a caused turnover. In the process, she helped secure the Mountain Hawks’ first Patriot League victory of the season.
On the season, Sukonik leads the team with 20 goals, 23 assists, and 29 draw controls in eight games thus far.
Sukonik and the Mountain Hawks will return to action Wednesday as they travel to Connecticut to take on Fairfield at 7 p.m., before returning home to face archrival Lafayette on Saturday.
