BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a tough loss to Temple Thursday night, the Lehigh women’s lacrosse team returns to action less than 48 hours later when the Mountain Hawks host Robert Morris Saturday. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Both squads enter with 1-2 records, winning their season openers before dropping their last two contests.
Lehigh fell into an early hole against the Owls and couldn’t recover. With starting goalie Alexandra Fitzpatrick injured just four minutes into the game, the Mountain Hawks hung tough after Temple took a 10-1 advantage, but the deficit proved too large to overcome. From that point forward, the sides played even (4-4) over the final 38:12, which included no Owl goals in the last 21:19.
Senior Kelly Draper led the way with three goals while a trio of freshmen picked up assists (Carli Sukonik, Scarlett Nawrocki and Kelsey Yenco). Senior Leigh Ann Torcivia and junior Alissa Hardiman scored the Mountain Hawks’ other goals.
Freshman goalie Allison Fayans shook off a slow start to finish with four saves to keep Temple to only three second-half scores. Yenco led the way with three of Lehigh’s seven caused turnovers while junior Julie McBrien added the other two.
Robert Morris enters with an identical 1-2 record as Lehigh, winning its season opener against Howard (18-9) before dropping its last two, to Ohio State (16-2) and Canisius (11-10). The Colonials are led offensively by Talia Waskowicz, who has nine points (eight goals, one assist). Colleen O’Donnell is right behind her with eight (four goals, four assists) while Courtney Sicinski has six (four goals, two assists). Lauren Roberts leads the team with 12 groundballs and eight draw controls. Emily Carlo owns a team-leading seven caused turnovers to go with six groundballs. A pair of goalies have seen significant action, led by Kaitlin Pentz, who has a 35.4 save percentage and 12.40 GAA in 150 minutes of action.
Saturday will mark the first-ever meeting between Lehigh and Robert Morris.
The Mountain Hawks will head to North Carolina on Tuesday for a big matchup against #2 nationally-ranked UNC at 5 p.m. Lehigh will then head to Colgate next Saturday (Mar. 10) for its Patriot League opener.
