Lehigh looks for first Patriot League win Saturday against Bucknell

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women’s lacrosse team will look to rebound from a tough loss to Fairfield when it hosts Bucknell on Saturday. Opening draw at the Ulrich Sports Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Mountain Hawks stand at 2-6 after a five-game losing streak, but against touch competition (Delaware, Navy, #2 Florida, Colgate and Fairfield). Lehigh looks for a big win on Saturday to get right back into the thick of things in the Patriot League standings.
 
In the Mountain Hawks’ loss against Fairfield, sophomore Carli Sukonik led Lehigh’s attack with two goals while senior Julie McBrien and freshman Kendall Garden each added another. Each team finished with 11 groundballs, including three apiece from sophomores Kelly Scott and Kelsey Yenco. Junior goalie Alexandra Fitzpatrick was strong in the cage for Lehigh, finishing wit11 saves, including many spectacular stops in the early going to keep the Mountain Hawks’ within two (5-3) at the half.
 
Bucknell fell to 1-7 on the season and 0-2 in the Patriot League after their most recent loss against Navy in a game that was shortened due to snowy weather. Four of Bucknell’s seven losses have been against nationally ranked opponents.
 
Katelyn Miller leads the Bucknell offense with 14 goals and 18 ground balls on the season. Madison Hurwitz owns a team-leading seven assists and Adrienne Wendling has a team-high 23 draw controls. Goalie Caroline O’Neill has started all eight games for the Bison and owns a 14.65 GAA to go with a 35.7% save percentage.
 
Lehigh is 25-12 all-time against Bucknell after beating them 17-9 on the road last season.
 
Saturday’s game against Bucknell will be the final of Lehigh’s four straight home games before traveling to Easton to face archrival Lafayette next Friday, March 29 at 7 p.m.
