The Lehigh women’s lacrosse team recently announced its 2012 awards following a strong campaign highlighted by a midseason stretch when it won five-of-seven games. Senior Leigh Ann Torcivia was named Athlete of the Year while juniors Julie McBrien and MaryLeah DiNisco earned Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Coaches Award, respectively.
Lehigh Athletics held its annual Convocation Program on Monday, April 30 at Baker Hall inside the Zoellner Arts Center to look back on the significant team and individual accomplishments of the past year. The event featured a highlight video, and the announcement of winners of Lehigh’s departmental awards.
Lehigh senior midfielder Leigh Ann Torcivia has earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League Team for her stellar work on the field and in the classroom. One of only six student-athletes named First Team All-League and Academic All-League, Torcivia was the team’s 2011 Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipient.
A trio of Lehigh women’s lacrosse players were named All-Patriot League performers, as announced by the league on Tuesday. Senior Leigh Ann Torcivia garnered First Team honors while junior Julie McBrien and freshman Carli Sukonik earned Second Team laurels. The three were among the team leaders in nearly every statistical category, including goals, assists, draw controls, groundballs and more.
The Navy women’s lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead and wouldn’t look back in downing Lehigh, 14-4 on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks (7-9, 2-3 Patriot League) were led by Carli Sukonik who rounded out her freshman season with her seventh-career hat trick. It was also Senior Day as Lauren Murray, Anna Pierce and Leigh Ann Torcivia were all honored prior to the game.
