Mountain Hawks return to Virginia for Spider Spring Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh travels to Richmond, Va. this weekend to participate in the Spider Spring Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va. This will be the third event the Mountain Hawks are participating in this spring season, after finishing tenth out of 16 teams at the C&F Bank Invitational last weekend in Williamsburg, Va. 
 
In their first appearance of the season, the Mountain Hawks finished first out of ten teams at the Sunshine Spring Classic in Orlando, Fla., winning the tournament for the second consecutive year.
 
At last week’s tournament, junior Chelsea Michalek led the Mountain Hawks with a score of 233 (77-75-81). Michalek tied for 18th overall, while sophomore Crystal Lee tied for 30th with a score of 236 (77-76-83). Other Mountain Hawk competitors included freshman Kelly Moylan, junior Ginette Schapira, and freshman Melanie Dickens.
 
The Richmond Spiders are the host school for the Spider Spring Invitational. The Spiders finished 12th of 17 teams in their appearance at the Pinehurst Challenge in North Carolina last weekend. In addition to Richmond and Lehigh other teams in the 15-team field include Central Connecticut State, Georgetown, Hofstra, Mount St. Mary's, Robert Morris, Long Island, Rollins College, Saint Francis, Sacred Heart, St. John's, Siena, Youngstown State, and Methodist.
 
The Spider Spring Invitational is a two day, 54-hole tournament that will begin with 36 holes Monday with the final 18 holes set for Tuesday morning.
