Mountain Hawks return to links at Rutgers Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women’s golf team will travel to New Jersey to compete in the Rutgers Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the Rutgers University Golf Course. The par-72 course was opened in 1963. Lehigh returns to the Rutgers Invitational after missing the tournament last season and finishing fifth out of 20 teams in 2010.
 
This year the event will host 21 teams. The competing teams this year are Lehigh, Rutgers, Albany, Boston University, Central Connecticut, Dartmouth, Delaware, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Hartford, Hofstra, Long Island, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary’s, Quinnipiac, Saint John’s, Sacred Heart, Seton Hall, St. Francis, USC-Upstate and Wagner.
 
So far this season, the Mountain Hawks have finished sixth out of 15 teams at the Bucknell Invitational and 12th out of 16 teams at the Yale Intercollegiate. The team is led by senior co-captains Chelsea Michalek and Ginette Schapira. Both players tied for 46th place at the Yale Intercollegiate with Michalek finishing with rounds of (79-81-77) and Schapira with (81-77-79). They also finished 15th and 23th respectively at the Bucknell Fall Invitational. Michalek shot 234 (77-78-79) and Schapira shot 238 (85-78-75).
 
The tournament is scheduled to begin with tee times on Friday from 8-10:20 a.m. On Saturday the invitational will conclude with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Following the Rutgers Invitational, the Mountain Hawks will host the Lehigh Invitational October 20-21 at Saucon Valley CC.
