Mountain Hawks hold first round lead at Sunshine Spring Classic

ORLANDO, Fla. – Behind a solid team effort the Lehigh women’s golf team is out to a fast start in its spring season opener as the Mountain Hawks hold the 18-hole lead at the Sunshine Spring Classic, which started Thursday at Rio Pinar Country Club. Lehigh has three individuals in the top ten as the Mountain Hawks shot 309 on the day to hold a four shot lead in the ten team event.
 
The Mountain Hawks, the defending Sunshine Spring Classic champions, were led by sophomore Crystal Lee, who shot 75 to tie for fourth overall after day one. Lee was joined in the top ten by juniors Chelsea Michalek and Ginette Schapira who each shot 77 to tie for seventh.
 
A pair of freshmen also competed for the Mountain Hawks on Thursday, with Melanie Dickens shooting 80 to tie for 15th and Kelly Moylan sitting in a tie for 42nd after an 87.
 
Tournament host Detroit-Mercy sits in second place with a score of 313. SIU-Edwardsville is in third place, seven strokes off Lehigh’s pace.
 
Detroit’s Colette Hansen holds the individual lead with a first-round 73.
 
The Sunshine Spring Classic concludes Friday with the final 18 holes of play from Rio Pinar Country Club.
