Lehigh off to good start at Spider Spring Intercollegiate

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. –  The Lehigh women’s golf team opened up action at the Spider Spring Intercollegiate Monday with the first 36 holes of competition at Independence Golf Club. It was a strong first day for the Mountain Hawks who sit in fifth place out of 14 teams after the opening day of competition.
 
Junior Chelsea Michalek was Lehigh’s top performer on day one, shooting 153 (76-77) to tie for eighth place overall. Classmate Ginette Schapira was four strokes behind Michalek at 157 (78-79) and is tied for 21st.
 
Others who competed for Lehigh included sophomore Crystal Lee, who is tied for 43rd after shooting 164 (83-81), freshman Melanie Dickens who shot 165 (82-83) and is tied for 48th, and freshman Kelly Moylan who shot 167 (86-81) and is tied for 53rd place.
 
Harin Lee of St. John’s holds the 36-hole individual lead after shooting 146 (73-73). She leads Elin Marcsdottir and Kayla Sciupider of Rollins College by three strokes each.
 
St. John’s leads the team race with a score of 606 (301-305), seven shots better than Georgetown (298-315). As a team Lehigh shot rounds of 319 and 318 to score 637 for the day. The Mountain Hawks are two shots behind Hofstra for fourth place and one ahead of sixth place Youngstown State.
 
The Spider Spring Intercollegiate concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes from Independence Golf Club.
