Lehigh ninth after day one of Roar-EE Invitational
SUFFERN, N.Y. – Junior Chelsea Michalek shot an opening round 77 to lead Lehigh in its final event of the spring season, the Roar-EE Invitational, which began Friday at Spook Rock Golf Club. Michalek is tied for 11th overall while as a team, the Mountain Hawks sit in ninth place in the 14 team field.
Michalek is four shots behind the leaders, Harin Lee of St. John’s and Mariana Juaristi of Fairleigh Dickinson who shot 73 on Friday.
It was a tough start to the tournament for the other Mountain Hawks who competed. Sophomore Crystal Lee shot 83 and is tied for 37th, while junior Ginette Schapira is tied for 40th with an 85. Rounding out the Lehigh contingent were freshmen Melanie Dickens, who is 45th after an 87 and Kelly Moylan who shot 91 to tie for 61st.
As a team Lehigh shot 332 to sit in ninth place after day one. The Mountain Hawks are 26 strokes behind the team leaders, Harvard who shot 306 to lead host Columbia by three strokes. Lehigh is six strokes behind eighth place Fairleigh Dickinson and two ahead of tenth place Hofstra.
The Roar-EE Invitational and Lehigh’s spring season will conclude Saturday with the final round of play beginning at 10 a.m.
